Kofi Annan

Chair of the Africa Progress Panel

“The world’s fish stocks and industries are under serious threat, with extinction of species and loss of livelihoods an ever-present reality. Addressing the fisheries challenge is global, and extends far beyond the capability of any individual country. If we are to roll back the tide, we first need to agree that fisheries resource plunder is organised theft disguised as ‘commerce’. We need to delve deeper into existing fishing agreements, as they provide cover for a multitude of corrupt practices – one of which is tax evasion on a monumental scale.”
